Land and Sky 64-Mile Relay – November 2, 2019 – Asheville NC to Cherokee NC
|A new relay on the Western North Carolina running scene.
FROM THE RACE ORGANIZERS
Glory Hound Events is very excited to announce the inaugural Land and Sky Relay, Presented by Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort, which will take teams of four runners from Asheville to Cherokee over one day on Saturday, November 2.
Starting at White Duck Taco in Asheville’s River Arts District, teams of four will run a total of 64 miles to Cherokee, NC. The journey will feature 12 legs ranging in distances from 2.7 miles to 8 miles. The course will wind through the valleys and breathtaking ridges of the Great Smoky Mountains. Once racers cross the finish line in Cherokee, an amazing post-race party and awards ceremony will be waiting at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort, where a post-race, team photo will be captured before heading to a buffet and a well-deserved beer.
What makes this race a little different from other relays is that teams are comprised of four runners rather than the usual 6 or 12 found at larger relay events in the region. The smaller team sizes means less expenses, as well as being able to use a standard car or SUV for a team to travel the route. The shorter route can be accomplished in about 12 hours with no overnight legs.
Greg Duff of Glory Hound Events, the owner and creator of the Land and Sky Relay, said “We want to create a relay experience that is less time consuming, less complicated and less expensive that some of the longer events in the area. This will be a memorable adventure for everyone who participates.”
The inaugural event is capped at 250 teams.
