Fontandango 50 Mi + 50k + Relay + 10 Mi – March 3, 2018 – Fontana Village Resort – Fontana Village NC

IMPORTANT: If the race needs to be rescheduled due to weather and/or trail conditions the race will be held on 3/10. Be sure you are available for both dates. No refunds will be given if the race is held on the reschedule date.

Fontandango is a 10 Mile loop made up of primarily well maintained single track trail, mixture of rolling hills and short steep climbs on the property of Fontana Village Resort in Fontana Dam, NC.
Runners will enjoy scenic views of Fontana Dam and surrounding mountains with a well supported route of 3 aid stations per loop. Runners may register for the 10 mile race (1 loop) 50k race (3 loops) and 50 mile (5 loops). There is a 50k relay option for up to 3 people (1 loop per person). EACH RACE HAS COMPLETE DETAILS (INCLUDING LINKS TO THE COURSE MAP & ELEVATION PROFILE) BELOW.

​Runners in the 50k and 50 mile races may set up a “drop bag” support location at the start/finish area. Runners will return to this area every 10 miles before beginning the route again.

​Overnight accommodations are available for Friday and Saturday night at the Fontana Village Resort with special event pricing. Call the reservation line directly to reserve your room 828-498-2211 Rooms are limited. Mention the race when you call to register. Fontana Village Resort.

This is a tough race! Roughly 2000′ of gain per loop. Racers who are registered for the 50 miler may drop down to the 50k upon finishing the 3rd loop (no refunds for the price difference). 80% of runners in the 50 miler dropped to the 50k – Will you be able to finish the challenge?

​ALL RUNNERS MUST FINISH BY 10PM. THAT IS A 16 HOUR TIME LIMIT FOR THE 50 MILE RUNNERS.

Fontandango 50k SOLO Runners (NOT RELAY) – 7:00 AM

Parking is near the pool. DO NOT PARK BY GENERAL STORE/POST OFFICE! Parking is permitted anywhere else on the Fontana Village Resort Property.

Packet Pick Up will start at 5:00am near the general store/post office on the Fontana Village Property (not gas station on main road). Follow Race Signs.

Pacers are NOT allowed as we are trying to keep user numbers as low as possible for the sake of everyone else who may be using the trails that day

Spectators and/or Crew Members, please stay off the course. Being on single-track trail means there is not much room for extra people.

ALL racers must check-in on race day so we know you are starting. Your name will be called at the race start if you have not checked in. Please be sure to let us know you are there!

Drop bags/Items will remain at the start/finish area under cover.

Anyone dropping out must notify a race official/medical personnel/aid station captain – PLEASE do not leave without notifying someone

Please DO NOT litter the course. Drop off your trash at the nearest Aid Station

Race Number should be worn on the front and visible at all times.

Please DO NOT tear off the tags at the bottom of the bib as we use these for finisher results.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STAY ON THE COURSE! Do not cut the course or attempt to avoid switchbacks! Anyone caught/reported doing so will be disqualified.

If you see a runner in need, do what you can to help. If the help needed is beyond your capabilities, please report the situation to a race official/medical personnel/aid station captain.

BE PREPARED! – Have emergency clothing in case of inclement weather.

Course will be marked with arrows at each turn and 3 orange survey flags will follow each turn and be placed approximately each ¼ mile.

Aid Stations 1 & 2 (same location), & 3 (finish line/drop bags) will be manned with basic medical supplies, food, gels, electrolyte fluids, and water. Plan on carrying your own hydration/nutritional supplies in case frigid weather freezes our water supplies.

Awards will be handed out as you finish. There will be no formal awards ceremony.

50k RELAY RUNNERS – Race Number will be worn by each leg and passed to the next leg. We suggest having a belt that you can attach the number to for an easy transition of the bib number from one runner to the next. In other words, one person from the team will run the 10 mile loop and hand off the bib number to the 2nd leg, who will in turn run the 10 mile loop and upon completion will hand off to the 3rd leg who will take their turn in completing the 10 mile loop.
