The Ascent at Mountain Air 5k – October 14, 2017 – Burnsville NC
When you live and run in the mountains you get exposed to some really interesting (read: butt-kicking) races. Here’s a new one with an 1,800 foot elevation gain over just 3.1 miles of run. The setting at Mountain Air really is breath-taking. I’ve been up there once and it was almost completely in the clouds. I witnessed a small single engine craft pop through the clouds and land on the little runway while I was visiting.

The Mountain Air Community near Burnsville NC and Glory Hound Events are excited to announce the inaugural Ascent at Mountain Air 5K taking place Saturday, October 14. This 5K road race will climb 1,800 feet, from the private community’s gates to the air strip on the top. At 4,600 feet elevation, this will be the most spectacular finish line in Western North Carolina.
For those wanting less of a challenge, we will have a fun run/walk on the half-mile airstrip. Participants may go to the very end and see the amazing views or turnaround at any point.
