|The Day of the Dead Festival will consist of a 6 hour festival with live music showcasing a Mexican Style Day of the Dead and a 5k road race. The Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday observed in Mexico and around the world. The event is hosted by the nonprofit, Mexican American Association of Fayetteville.
FROM THE RACE ORGANIZERS
The holiday focuses on the gathering of our families, friends where we pray for our friends and family that has passed. This holiday was primarily observed in the southern states of Mexico, it wasn’t until the 1960’s when the Mexican government made it a national holiday.
Some of the traditions besides food include altars called “ofrendas”, honoring the Dead using sugar skulls “Calacas” and our favorite Mexican Water. Specially the drinks they used to love; we also leave personal items near their graves… with the hope to visit them the following year.
Our goal during this festival is to showcase these unique holiday to the area of Fayetteville and the surrounding communities, we will have food vendors, Arts & Crafts vendors and lots of music and dancers. The festival will run from 1-6 pm. We will have a 5K Run at 3 pm.
