FROM THE RACE ORGANIZERS
One of the area’s oldest events, this race has been run since the late 70’s. The race, which starts and finishes at the Koka Booth Amphitheater in Cary, is managed by the Department of Parks, Recreational and Cultural Resources in Cary.
In April of 2015, Omar Wiggans won the 10K in 35:57 and Melissa Hardesty (36:59) was the overall winner in the women’s competition. Kaleb Keyserling holds the men’s course record (32:50), while Tara Wojciechowski (36:41) holds the women’s course record.
In the 5K Derrin Pierret won that race after covering the course in 16:41. Colleen McCarthy was the top woman finisher in 20:17. Peter Ellis (15:57 and Brennan Liming (18:13) hold the course marks in the 5K.
Once again the Cary 10K is part of the 2016 Second Empire Grand Prix.
