This 4.35 mile race is in honor of Michael Garcia. Shortly after relocating to Huntersville with his family, Michael was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM), a form of brain cancer. Despite his grave prognosis, Michel worked hard to fight the odds. Always with a smile on his face, and strong faith, his motto was “Life is what pushes me”.
FROM THE RACE ORGANIZERS
The month of May was chosen because May is national brain cancer awareness month (Silver ribbon). The distance of 7k was chosen because Michael passed in the July. The 1.7 mile distance optional turnaround was chosen because the number 17 was Michael lucky number, which you will also see consistent on race bibs. Michael’s family has been very active in the Huntersville community for years.
