Running 5 to Keep Sports Alive 5k – March 19, 2016 – Fort Mill Middle School – Fort Mill SC
|Participation in school sports is an integral part of a well-rounded education. Students who participate in athletic programs during the school-age years lay a foundation for a healthy lifestyle later in life, as well as learn valuable skills through cooperation with teammates and coaches. Your support to this 5k will give students the opportunity play middle school sports.
FROM THE RACE ORGANIZERS
Five years ago, The Fort Mill School Board of Education was faced with severe budget cuts. Decisions were made to cut a variety of programs, one of which was the funding of middle school sports. At that time, a group of parents made a presentation to the board to raise money through the school athletic booster clubs with fundraising and charging athletes to pay $100 per sport to play. The board agreed to allow that to happen. Five years later, we are still in need of raising over $10,000 each year to allow sports to be played at Fort Mill Middle School; therefore, community support is paramount and greatly appreciated.
