Messa 8k for H20 – February 20, 2016 – Folly Beach Pier – Folly Beach SC

Messa 2The Fourteenth Annual Master of Environmental Studies Student Association (MESSA) 8K for H2O is an 8K Run to promote improved water quality in the Charleston area.  Proceeds will benefit the East Cooper Land Trust.  The start and finish line will be near the Folly Beach Fishing Pier and the race takes place on the beautiful streets of Folly Beach.

FROM THE RACE ORGANIZERS

“The East Cooper Land Trust is a community-supported organization devoted to conserving natural spaces, thus the quality of life for current and future generations.”

In 2003 the Masters of Environmental Studies Student Association (MESSA) was searching for a way to make a more tangible contribution to the Charleston Community. After much discussion, the issue of water quality was highlighted as one of key concern here in the Lowcountry.  As a race on Folly Beach would bring people within visual distance of the issue, the 8k was developed to provide a fun and interactive method to raise funds for a local organization working toward this same goal.
