Run for Shindig on the Green 5k – June 25, 2016 – Carrier Park – Asheville NC

Run for Shindig

Run for Shindig on the Green is one of the few annual races that provides Asheville runners with a nice FLAT race through Carrier Park as opposed to all those hills we’re used to. Shindig on the Green is a great ongoing summer event that brings both locals and tourists to our thriving downtown and helps preserve the wonderful folk music heritage of the mountains. Even better, all the Shindig concerts are FREE, so be sure to check out the first event after you run the 5k!

FROM THE RACE ORGANIZERS

The 5th Annual Run for Shindig on the Green 5K Race and Fun Run takes place at Carrier Park, one of Asheville’s premiere parks alongside the French Broad River. The course is flat and the terrain includes the multi-use track, paved trail, and unpaved trail. Race management timing and finish line services are performed by Right On Time Productions; race results will be available five minutes after the last runner finishes. The overall male and female winners of the 5K will each receive a beautiful mug featuring the Folk Heritage Committee logo crafted by Mangum Pottery in Weaverville, NC. Medals and/or ribbons will be awarded to the Male and Female winners in 5-year age increments; additional awards will be given to the Fun Walk/Run winners.

The mission of the Folk Heritage Committee is to promote and preserve the music and dance of the Appalachian region through production of the free event, Shindig on the Green. This 5K race kicks off the 50th Annual Shindig on the Green, which takes place eight Saturday evenings “along about sundown” each summer at Pack Square Park in downtown Asheville on the Bascom Lamar Lunsford Stage. The two overall female and male 5K winners will be recognized at this year’s first Shindig on the Green, on the evening of July 2nd and all race participants are encouraged to attend.
