FROM THE RACE ORGANIZERS

The New River Marathon’s home is in Ashe County, the Northwestern-most county of North Carolina, in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The New River Marathon races (marathon, half marathon & 5K) start and finish in the historic and charming hamlet of Todd, North Carolina. The start line is on Todd Railroad Grade Rd in the heart of Todd and the finish at the Walter and Anne Cook Memorial Park on the bold Elk Creek, also in Todd.

The New River Marathon courses primarily along the banks of the South Fork New River, one of only 14 American Heritage Rivers in the United States. Almost 20 miles roll along the banks of the scenic New River offering pastoral views of the River, Christmas tree farms and horse farms. For the 6 miles that wind away from the flat New River Valley, the course offers two 1/2-mile climbs, two 1-mile descents, rolling country roads and “the most beautiful race venue ever!”
