The Cherokee Harvest Half Marathon and 5k has been rescheduled to October 31, 2015.
FROM THE RACE ORGANIZERS (posted October 1, 2015)
The 2015 Cherokee Harvest Half Marathon & 5K, scheduled for this Saturday, has been postponed until October 31 because of the threat of torrential rain and flooding forecast for the region. The organizing committee of the event, in cooperation with local emergency management officials, made the decision in the best interests of runner and volunteer safety and to allow local public safety to fully focus their attention to situations that may result from the inclement weather.
Race registrations will carry over to the October 31 event. Those who cannot race on the new date will be able to cancel their registration for a 100% credit of their entry fee towards the 2016 event through October 18. After that date, the regular cancellation policy will be in effect. There will be no refunds. Details on how to cancel your registration and receive the credit can be found here.
Our goal every year for this event is to give our runners a truly memorable experience. While the track of the storm is still in question, we know it is going to be very wet and cold on Saturday, which will make for a miserable experience for not only the runners, but our volunteers and spectators. Public safety officials across the region are urging people not to travel so this was a factor we also considered since most of our runners will be traveling to Cherokee to run.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who will be impacted by this weather event and we look forward to a great event on October 31.
