The 29th running of a popular and long-standing race for an important cause. The USATF-certified course starts and finishes on Elm Street across from High Point Regional Hospital. Last year’s race had over 300 finishers.

FROM THE RACE ORGANIZERS

The 2014 Warren Rives Race raised more than $35,000 for the Heart Strides program. The Warren Rives 5K Walk/Run and Fun Run benefits Heart Strides, the cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation program at High Point Regional. Since its inception, 29 years ago, the event has raised more than a million dollars. The event is open to runners, walkers and children and includes all running levels. “We appreciate the dedication and all the hard work that goes into the Rives Race each year. We’d like to thank the sponsors, runners and all the volunteers for making it a success,” Melissa Weavil, Program Coordinator of Heart Strides. “The monies raised will help many of our friends and family in the High Point community participate in Heart Strides. We are extremely proud of this community and of the effort and support given each year to the Rives Race.”

The Warren Rives 5K Run/Walk & Fun Run is named for Warren J. Rives, Jr. who was a generous community leader and the youngest member to serve on the High Point Regional Board of Trustees. Tragically, he died of a heart attack in 1990 at the age of 41. His family and friends established the Rives Trust which supports and promotes cardiac and pulmonary awareness and rehab. His daughter, Olivia Rives Kiefer, serves as the Chair of the Rives Race event.
