Foot Rx Asheville Announces the Spring 2015 Healthy Kids Running Series

Registration is now open for the HKRS Asheville program beginning April 12th 2014.

Asheville NC (March 11th 2015)Foot Rx Asheville and the Run828 Foundation is thrilled to bring the Healthy Kids Running Series (“HKRS”) again this spring for its 2nd season at Fletcher Academy, Fletcher NC beginning April 12th 2015. In 2014 the HKRS Asheville program hosted over 100 runners, and was voted the best race for children in the south east. The 2015 race series is expected to grow.

HKRS is a five-week, nonprofit youth running program created by Jeff Long, Founder and President of HKRS. The program is designed to combat childhood obesity while providing children with a positive, educational and fun introduction in the world of running. The divisions and race distances are as follows:

Kindergarten & 1st Grade ¼ Mile
2nd & 3rd Grade ½ Mile
4th & 5th Grade 1 Mile
Middle School 1 Mile

Aaron Saft, owner says, “Foot Rx is committed to the local running community and looks forward to bringing this series to the area again this fall. The WNC Healthy Kids Running Series joins 72 other cities across the nation holding this semi-annual event focusing on our kids health.”

The proceeds of the event will be divided equally between the Healthy Kids Running Series and RUN828 Foundation. Ellen Seagle, co-director of the foundations says, “The RUN828 Foundation is a non-profit organization that promotes and supports healthy activities in WNC and surrounding areas by providing opportunity, support, education, and funding. The foundation hosts and sponsors community events; provides structure and administrative support for the Four Seasons Running Club and is working to create a community track.” For more information see our event website.

At the completion of the series each participant receives a medal and trophies will be awarded based on total points to the top boy and girl in each age group. All runners registered for the five-week program will receive a race-bag and HKRS tech shirt. The series provides participants with a fun learning experience which includes living an active lifestyle, dedication and goal setting.
