Lake James 5k + 11 Mile + 15 Mile Trail Races – February 14, 2015 – Nebo NC

A terrific trio of trail races at Lake James State Park on Valentine’s Day. There’s definitely something for everyone here with a 5k, 11 Miler and 15 Miler.

OVERVIEW

Located at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, between the towns of Marion and Morganton, Lake James is 1,200 feet above sea level. Steep, forested ridges, and the clear waters of Lake James welcome runners to this first class State Park.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

We will be starting out on pavement for spacing. All races will start together on the Mills Creek Trail. Running along the shore of Lake James to begin with. The short course crosses the Park road while the longer races head for the Mountain Bike Trails.

The trails run very deep into the forest and are only slightly mountainous. Most of the trails are up and down, up and down, undulating like waves in the ocean. There are some tight turns, but very few obstacles on the trails. Most of the technical sections of the course are on the Hike Only portion of the Mill Creek trail.
