The Orchard 4 Miler – May 31, 2014 – Altapass Orchard – Spruce Pine, NC

The Orchard 4 Mile Race

This looks like a great race, brought to you by Matt Hollifield, director of races such as The Springmaid Splash and The Winter Splash.

FROM THE RACE ORGANIZER

This is the first annual 4 Mile Race held at the beautiful Altapass Orchard in Spruce Pine, NC (mile 328.3 on the Blue Ridge Parkway). The Orchard, the course, and all that goes with it is within “an apple’s throw” of the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway. It is incredibly beautiful. The gently rolling course has the most amazing views. There is nothing “extreme” about this race, except its beauty and fun.

The course parallels the Blue Ridge Parkway. The first section is on the Orchard Road, which is packed gravel and very comfortable to run on. After leaving the road, the course is on grassy orchard roads weaving through the apple trees for three miles. The final half mile is on Orchard Road and concludes on a nice downhill. The only difficult part of this race will be trying to keep your eyes on the trail and not on the beautiful views which are 90% of the course.

5 year age groups, including a 70+ group.
