Arc of Buncombe 5k – March 8, 2014 – Asheville, NC
|Who’s up for a 5k in downtown Asheville? It’s a USATF certified course (according to the race organizers) with some unusual age group ranges. The race starts at 9:00 AM in Pack Square.

In collaboration with the SoCon Basketball Tournament and Asheville Buncombe Regional Sports Commission, The Arc Buncombe County is hosting it’s Inaugural 5k March Run/Walk. It’s a fun, healthy and easy way to support people with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities. The funds raised from this event will assist families in crisis, provide children and adults with health and wellness training, and support The Arc’s programs and services.
The Arc of Buncombe County advocates for and serves children and adults with Intellectual Disabilities and Developmental Disabilities, including Down syndrome, Autism, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, cerebral palsy and other diagnoses. The Arc of Buncombe County is a part of a network of over 700 chapters across the country promoting and protecting the human rights of people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and actively supporting their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes without regard to diagnosis.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female overall finishers and to the first male and female in the Masters Division (40+). Awards will go to the top man & female finishers in each of the following age divisions: 14 & under; 15-25; 26-36; 37-47; 48-58; 59-69; 70-79; 80 and over. Overall placers not eligible for age group awards.

Those are unusual categories, Dennis….and only one award each! I wonder who “certified” the course? Leadership? Don
I don’t know who is in charge of this race. I found it on Active. I searched USATF certified courses in Asheville 3+ miles and couldn’t find anything that appeared to be this race.
David Lee certified it. Course looks cruddy, IMHO.
