It was plenty chilly when I arrived at the Hot Chocolate 10k this morning at around 8:20. My car thermometer read 19 degrees. It was hard to recognize the people you know because everyone’s bundled up with layers of clothing, headgear, scarves and mittens. The starting line was just outside the temporary location of Isaac Dickson School and it required some coaxing to get runners to give up the warmth of the school building and mob up in the long, narrow starting chute. I probably should have made my way closer to the actual starting line because it took me over a minute to cross it once the horn sounded.
I like the new course because without the section in the park we had the opportunity to see more of the runners ahead and behind us because of the out and back nature of the course. The new finish was challenging, but there must be a challenging finish to this race because of its flat to downhill start.
Congratulations to Josey Weaver as first overall and first male. Congratulations to Keelin Schneider as first female. Click here for age groups. Results courtesy of Right on Time Productions.
