North Buncombe Middle School Chilly Challenge 8k – February 22, 2014 – Weaverville NC
|IMPORTANT UPDATE: February 15, 2014 – 6 PM
The race start time has changed from 10 AM to 3 PM. I received this from the race organizers today:
Due to a change in the school schedule and Saturday school, the Chilly Challenge 8k race, fun run and chili cook-off will take place at a different time.
3:00 race time – Registration open 2:00-2:45
That just changes it to a fun afternoon race and chili dinner instead! Same date, same place, long list of great prizes, chip timing, and lively good time for all participants.
NOW WE WILL CONTINUE WITH OUR REGULAR PROGRAMMING
This will be the second year for this great race which is part of the Asheville Track Club’s 2014 Grand Prix series. The name with double meaning suggests that it may be chilly and there will be chili.
The race had a nice turnout last year for its inaugural running with 104 finishers. [See 2013 results here]. With a 10 AM start you can sleep in, run the race and since it’s creeping up on lunchtime at that point there’s nothing better in February than a bowl of chili. And there’s a chili cook-off too so if you have your own secret recipe and seek to learn how good (or, um, not good) other’s think it is, this is your big opportunity. Maybe if I’m ambitious I’ll whip up an industrial-sized batch of my legendary (in my own mind) White Bean and Chicken Chili.
OVERVIEW FROM THE RACE ORGANIZERS
This year’s chili challenge will have something for everyone!
Each person registered to run the race will receive a complementary bowl of homemade chili. Any spectators or visitors will have the opportunity to donate $5 for a serving of chili. Each bowl will also include a variety of toppings and a serving of cornbread or biscuit as well. There will be traditional as well as vegetarian options.
If you are someone that likes to cook chili, we will be hosting our second annual chili cook-off as well. There will be judging as well as prizes given for the top 3 recipes. All money collected will be given to the PTO fund for furthering children’s education at North Buncombe Middle School.
THE COURSE
