Asheville Half Marathon and 10k – June 7, 2014 – Asheville, NC

Asheville Half Marathon and 10k Banner

This is a brand new event on Western North Carolina running scene. The website and Active.com registration page first showed up around November (at least that’s when I became aware of the pages). The race director is Julian Smith who is also the race director of the highly-successful and well-known Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston, SC.

The first three miles is much like the final three miles of the “old” (pre-2013) Citizen-Times Half Marathon in reverse. The course heads north on Broadway, through UNCA and downhill on Lookout to Riverside. Then there’s a long tour of Montford with hints of the Hot Chocolate 10k and the Chamber Challenge 5k before we head down to the River Arts District. We climb back up French Broad Avenue to Hilliard on our way back to Pack Square for the finish.
