Last year I used up all of my juvenile jokes about the name of this race (sounds kind of like a new menu item at Denny’s or iHop). Sorry ’bout that folks, but sometime I just can’t resist.
But seriously, this is a tough trail race in a beautiful setting. I ran the race last year and acquired great respect for it. For those traveling from the Asheville area you’ll pass right through Bethel Community (and drive along part of the Bethel Half Marathon course) on your way to Camp Daniel Boone. It’s one of those mostly uphill first half followed by mostly downhill second half races. The highly technical uphill section (which goes on for a few miles) was such that many average runners (like me) walked for quite a while. I’ll let the elevation chart from my Garmin tell the story, but you can see the gory details of my less than stellar performance at Garmin Connect.
