This race is a classic and part of the Asheville Track Club Grand Prix series. It’s a terrific venue and a nice rolling course. The event is always quite well run and features an unusual twist – the option of the ‘pump and run’ – a little bench press activity before the run. Here’s the scoop from the race organizers.
FROM THE RACE ORGANIZERS
2013 marks the 25th running of the Sourwood 5K, a premiere road run/walk held August 10th in conjunction with the Sourwood Festival. The well marked/supervised 5K course features rolling hills, shade, three aid stations and lots of fun. Also returning is the Cheshire Pump & Run where participants earn deductions off their 5K times for doing bench presses pre-race. Both events are held at the Cheshire Fitness Club in Black Mountain.
Check out the event website – www.Sourwood5k.com – for event info, on-line registration, Pump & Run rules, and course maps. Paper applications can be picked up at Cheshire, Black Mountain Running Company, and area merchants.
