Firecracker 5k – July 4, 2013 – Columbus, NC

Columbus NC Firecracker 5k

I ran this race it’s first year (2010) and loved it. Great little town and a very nice rolling course. Here’s the details from the race organizers.

FROM THE RACE ORGANIZERS

The Columbus Firecracker 5k returns for a third running this year. It is again brought to you by the experienced runners of the Saluda Running Club — the same folks who previously sponsored the Coon Dog Day 5k.

Starting time is 8:00 a.m., Thursday, July 4, 2013, at the Columbus, NC. Town Office, and will be run over a 5k course with professional timing.

Trophies will be awarded for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each age group for both male and female.

There will also be a special $100 award for any male who breaks the previous course record of 15:13.2 set by Charles Ware, and a $100 award will be given to any female who breaks the course record of 18:49 set by Katie Gibson. The prizes will be awarded to the single best record breaking time in both the male and female category.

New this year will be a Family registration category to make family participation more affordable.

The Firecracker 5k is a major event in the town of Columbus Fabulous 4th celebration, but there will also be many other fun activities for runners and their families. Activities beginning after the race include family games, craft vendors, and food vendors. Music begins in the afternoon and continues until the fireworks display at 9:45 p.m.

Race proceeds help fund The Shepherds Feast, a Christmas dinner held at the Polk County Middle School that shares the Christmas spirit with the citizens of Polk County.
