One Fund 5k – July 12, 2013 – Montreat College – Black Mountain, NC
|A Friday evening race for a good cause:
April 15, 2013 was the day of this year’s Boston Marathon. It was a tragedy not only for the people running in the marathon, but for people and runners all over the world. Montreat College wants to show their compassion and support to those affected by the bombings in Boston that day.
Head of Montreat’s Cross Country and Track program, Justin Herbert, is planning a race called the “One Fund 5k.” One Fund is an organization that provides money for the victims of the bombings. Those affected have outrageous hospitals bills and even though we can’t erase what happened that day in Boston we want to show the love and support we have for them.
Not only is this cross country program raising money for One Fund, but proceeds are going to another organization as well called, Sole Hope. Sole Hope is a group of people who want to help children in Africa who have developed parasites. These parasites are developing on these children’s feet because they are constantly barefoot. Sole Hope provides shoes for these children in the country of Uganda. The funds from this race will go to Sole Hope so they would be able to buy materials for all the shoes they are making for the children in Uganda.
One Fund 5k will be held on July 12, 2013 @ 5:30pm at Montreat College’s Black Mountain Campus on 510 Vance Avenue, Black Mountain, NC 28711.This race will cost $20 and that will go to benefit two outstanding organizations. You can register by clicking “One Fund 5k” on Montreat College’s athletic page. We hope to see you there!

I received an email this morning that the race is postponed; the trails were damaged by flash flooding last night in the Montreat area.
I don’t know for sure – I published all the information I received from them about this and there’s not much at their website. But I would definitely expect it to be trail or mostly trail based on races I’ve done in the past that were organized by Montreat’s Cross Country coach.
Hi, I didn’t see whether this was a road or trail (or mixed) race. Maybe cross-country given the sponsor? Thanks.
