Run for Shindig on the Green 5k – June 22, 2013 – Carrier Park – Asheville, NC

A 5k race at Carrier Park (start time – 8:30), held as part of the kickoff activities for the downtown Asheville hootenanny known as Shindig on the Green. Here is more information about the race from the race organizers.

The mission of the Folk Heritage Committee is to promote and preserve the music and dance of the Appalachian region through production of the free event “Shindig on the Green”. Shindig takes place eight Saturday evenings “along about sundown” each summer in Asheville on the Bascom Lamar Lunsford Stage/Roger McGuire Green. This race will kick off the 47th year for Shindig. The overall male and female winners of the 5K will each receive a beautiful mug with the Folk Heritage Committee logo crafted by Mangum Pottery in Weaverville, N.C. There will be additional awards for the winners of the Fun Walk/Run and age divisions of the 5K race. Parking is limited to 280 spaces at the Park so please carpool if possible. There will be no food vendor but post-race snacks and water will be available. Online registration for this race will close June 20, 2013. T-Shirts will be available only for pre-registered 5K participants. There will be no T-shirts available for race-day registrants.
