Results of the Greenway Challenge 5k – March 23, 2013 – Pisgah Brewing Company – Black Mountain, NC
|It was a nice day for a race – wait a second – isn’t every day a nice day for a race?
Nice temperatures, solid cloud cover and the principally rural road courses that comprise the Black Mountain Greenway Challenge 10k and 5k. I chose to run the 5k race, but to be sure I got a 10k run in for the day, I ran the 5k course ahead of time as a warm-up. I spooked some of the volunteers who were out on the course and thought the race started early and somehow I had managed to be in the lead with not second place runner in sight.
But then the real races commenced promptly at 2 PM, following a spirited and entertaining pre-race briefing from the race director, master of ceremonies and general man with the plan – Peter Ripmaster.
At about 1.3 miles in, the 5k and 10k each go their separate ways. I couldn’t quite keep up with my friend (and friendly age group competitor) Victor Dostrow who was looking strong and finished almost a minute ahead of me. It was a terrific race, great venue and a good time was had by all.
Congratulations to Shawn Bagley as first overall and first male. Congratulations to Kenzie Himelein as first female. Results courtesy of Right on Time Productions.
