Results of the Valentine 5k – February 9, 2013 – Lake Tomahawk – Black Mountain, NC
|The conditions were quite nice for this morning’s Valentine 5k at Lake Tomahawk in Black Mountain. I was a little concerned when I awoke this morning to high winds and temperatures in the mid 20s. But by race time the wind had waned and the temperature was approaching 40 degrees.
Kudos to the race organizers who moved the race to this new venue with an indoor facility for registration and packet pick-up as well as pre-race mingling and post-race refreshments. The course was a nice combination of Black Mountain neighborhoods, Greenway and a finish around the Lake Tomahawk Park. A reasonably challenging race in terms of hill. By my Garmin it was a solid 5k distance of 3.12 miles. A very well-managed event.
Congratulations to Gary Curran as first overall and first male. Congratulations to Faith Trammel as first female. There were 167 finishers, up slightly from last year’s 161.
