Three cheers for everyone who came out for the Hot Chocolate 10k this morning. Following is a race report from my friend and humble correspondent Victor Dostrow, who finished the race in 51:51, 159th overall:
So, the ravages of Winter, with very icy roads and sidewalks, descended on AVL on 25 January. The outlook for conditions for the race this morning were far from clear. But, Grotenhuis and co. were out really, really early preparing the pathway through the FBR park, and the course was otherwise fine. It was pretty cold, with a cold, brisk wind at the gun. However, the wind abated a bit after a time, and overall it was a great day for a 10k. This was, as usual, a very well organized event. And, despite the potential for weather related problems, there seemed to be many people at the starting line this morning. Congratulation to Peyton Hoyal as first male and Amber Reece-Young (Moran) as first female.
