|NOTE: Modified 10k course because of construction work. Instead of climbing Cherokee, we’ll use an alternate course that involves Sunset Parkway, Macon, Howland and Old Toll to get up to Sunset. Modified course map is below.
10K COURSE MAP

It’s hard to believe that the Asheville Shamrock Race is just two and a half months away. This is the seventh annual running of this race which features a 10k and 5k and I’m proud to say that I’ve run the 10k every single time since the inaugural running in 2007. The race is hosted by the Asheville Catholic School and directs race proceeds to supplement school needs. The 10k is part of the Asheville Track Club 2013 Grand Prix Series.
Each race is a tour of parts of North Asheville neighborhoods. I consider the 10k to be the toughest 10k road race in Western North Carolina, with a monster climb at about mile two and a long, gradual uphill pull with a few flat breaks for the next two miles. The final two-mile stretch features quite a bit of fast downhill.
5k Course
A kinder, gentler course than the 10k.
Culvern to Beaverdam to Temple to Ottari to Kimberly to Country Club; up Griffing and around Rose Garden; down Griffing to Country Club to Hampstead to Kimberly to Holborne to Ottari to Temple to Beaverdam to Culvern.
