Frostbite 5k and 10k – February 17, 2013 – Lelia Patterson Center – Fletcher, NC
|NOTE: The 10k race is part of the Asheville Track Club Grand Prix this year.
The weather conditions for this February standard are anyone’s guess. Last year it was cold (mid 30s) with light rain, but that didn’t suppress the crowd – 459 finished the 5k (see 2012 5k results) and 204 finished the 10k (see 2012 10k results). Last year the 5k was part of the Asheville Track Club Grand Prix, but this year it’s the 10k. There’s a feature that I haven’t seen before in a Western North Carolina Race – VIP parking for a $5 fee. Sounds great because who wants to walk a few hundred yards to and from their car – WAIT, I forgot – we’re runners, we run hundreds or thousands of yards to warm up then we run roughly 3 or 6 thousand yards in the race. What’s a couple hundred yards to and from the start/finish?
By the way, I ran the 10k in 2012 and 2011 (prior to that it was just a 5k for years). In 2012 the 10k course was a little short by my GPS measurement – about 6 miles flat.
