Point Lookout Lightning 5k – October 20, 2012 – Old Fort, NC
|
This race is billed as the “Fastest 5k in the Southeast.” I ran it last year and it’s certainly the fastest I’ve ever run a 5k. It’s not just “mostly” downhill or “a lot of” downhill. It’s ALL downhill. It’s on the Point Lookout Trail which is paved and wide enough to drive a school bus on. In fact, they bus you to the top in school buses and drop you off for the start. Somehow they were miraculously able to clear the trail of leaves and other debris to make it as safe as possible to really burn it downhill. And I burned it! On Monday my quads were trashed.
From the race organizers:
- Smooth, paved, point-to-point course with nearly 900 feet of gradual descent
- Average grade of minus 5.5%
- Spectacular fall scenery
- A must-do event for runners of all abilities
- ChampionChip timing for fast, accurate results
It’s a great race, nice people and well-organized. Online registration is available at RunSignUp. For more information, visit the race website.
