Bethel Half Marathon and 5k – October 13, 2012 – Bethel Community, NC
|The Bethel Half Marathon and 5k are great races. It’s a beautiful rural setting and the courses are relatively flat by Western North Carolina standards. They’re also hosted by some of the nicest people you’ll find. There are plenty of local volunteers donating their time managing the registration process, serving as course marshalls and managing aid stations on the course. But if you ask a past participant about this race, the first thing you’re likely to hear is ‘potato soup.’
The post-race food (some of which is available pre-race) is unrivaled and mostly homemade. In recent years there have been bottomless pots of three different kinds of soup (including the potato soup that is the stuff of legends). There are also plenty of homemade baked good (I grabbed a slice of the pumpkin bread last year as pre-race food and it really hit the spot).
The half marathon is part of the Asheville Track Club Grand Prix series.
