Positive Prevention 5k + 12k Race – November 4, 2012 – Biltmore Estate – Asheville, NC
|In 2011 we had no Biltmore Estate race and now, in 2012, we’ve had the Kiwanis 15k/5k and now the Positive Prevention 12k/5k in early November (great race weather). Here’s a description from the race organizers:
Road racing makes its fall debut at the historic Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina with the Positive Prevention 5K/12K on Sunday, November 4, hosted by the Western North Carolina AIDS Project. Proceeds will be used to expand HIV/AIDS prevention programs throughout 18 counties in Western North Carolina. WNCAP is dedicated to providing HIV-related services to the people of Western North Carolina through client support, prevention education and outreach activities.”
COURSES
Both races are run entirely on the scenic grounds of the Biltmore estate. The 12K begins at Antler Hill Village and goes straight across onto a service road and then picks up the end of the Approach road before looping in front of the main house. Runners next enter the Walled Garden, pass by the Azalea Garden and lagoon along the French Broad River, and then finish by returning to the Winery. The first half of the course includes one challenging hill, while the second half is down hill to flat terrain. The 5K-course will be a flat, out and back course starting at Antler Hill Village and paralleling the French Broad River.

LOGISTICS
During the event, vehicular traffic will be limited and controlled. Chip timing will be used for both races. Pre-race training prior to the event is prohibited since the entire course is on paved roads with heavy vehicular traffic and on the private property of the Biltmore Estate. Due to directional flow for traffic, it will not be possible to drive the course as it is to be run.
This is a Sunday race folks, just like the Kiwanis race in May. The 12k starts at 7:15 AM and the 5k starts at 7:30 AM. Packet pickup is the day before at the Doubletree Hotel, near the entrance to Biltmore Estate. Here’s a rundown on costs and a few other details:
