Folkmoot 4.01k Race – Formerly Folkmoot 5k – July 14, 2012 – Waynesville, NC
|I think I’ll refer to this as The race formerly known as the Folkmoot 5k.
You can’t make this kind of stuff up, folks. This race is part of the Asheville Track Club Grand Prix series and suddenly the organizers decide to take this fairly popular 5k race in the Western North Carolina running scene and do what anyone would do: slice off a kilometer and shave this thing down to 4k. Let’s see how this thing flies, but my bet is that a couple of years from now we’ll be saying “remember that time they made the Folkmoot 5k into the Folkmoot 4.01k?”
The Folkmoot 4.01K Run/Walk and Kid’s Fun Run will take place the weekend before the Festival begins on Saturday, July 14 at 8am. New course in 2012! A bit shorter than a traditional 5K race, Folkmoot’s new 4.01K will run through downtown Waynesville, starting on Main Street.
Online registration is available at Run Signup, or you may download a Folkmoot 2012 4k Entry Form.
I ran this race two or three years ago. Then, it was run out of the Folkmoot Center in Hazelwood. It occurred during Folkmoot, so there were quite a few international participants. One year I ran it, the finishers in front of me and behind me were both Japanese. That was so neat; you won’t see that at any other race around here. There were musicians and dancers from other nations. I liked that too. It was also a 5K.
Sadly, all of these elements were missing from this year’s race. It didn’t happen at the Folkmoot Center. It didn’t happen during Folkmoot. As best I can tell, there were no international runners. And it was a 4.01K.
Wow. I wish they would go back to the way they used to do it.
Seniors are far more afflulent, on average, than the rest of the population. Why should they receive discounts?
Jim, I agree. The best situation would be every racer got a better price. Thirty to thirty five dollars turns me off. I would run more races at twenty to twenty five.
Thank you in adavance for the upper age group categories…….but when are you going to offer Sr. Citizen discounts?

I’m afraid this apparent attempt at a tongue in cheek overlap between personal finance and personal fitness is: FAIL!
I’m sure that someone who’s never been closer to a running shoe than a store window thinks “4.01K” is really clever.
