Hickory Mountain 10k Trail Race – October 6, 2012 – DuPont State Forest – Brevard, NC

This is a great, well organized 10k trail race held as part of a big “race weekend” at DuPont Forest. It features a big challenging hill in the middle (a little bit of walking required for middle of the packers like me) followed by a pretty fast downhill glide.

Information from the race organizers:

Starting and finishing at Guion Farm in beautiful DuPont State Forest, the HM10K race will use single track trails, double track, and forest service roads. You will start on Buck Forest, turn right on Jim Branch, head down & go right on Lake Imaging, then right on Ridgeline. You will climb Ridgeline & go left onto Hickory Mountain Loop (clockwise), follow loop around to Hickory Mountain rd, take HM Rd, go left on Boundary and then right on Guion. Go left on HM Rd, finish left on Buck Forest.

250 runners can participate. Will you be a part of that lucky group? Age graded event. We are working on prizes…they will be cool, just unsure what exactly they are! The coolest race goodie bag ever and door prizes! Directions to Dupont Forest:

From Asheville, NC
Take I 26 east to Exit 40 (Asheville Airport exit). Turn right off Exit 40 onto NC 280 (also known as Airport Road). Take NC 280 south 16 miles to US 64. Turn left onto US 64 and go 3.7 miles to the stop light at the Texaco station in Penrose.

Turn right onto Crab Creek Rd and go 4.3 miles to DuPont Road. Turn right onto DuPont Rd and go 0.7 miles to a left on Sky Valley Road. Follow Sky Valley Road past the junction of Old CCC Road to the Guion Farm Access Area 1.6 miles on the right.
