Results of the Mountain Splendor 5k – November 5, 2011 – Black Mountain, NC
|This was the inaugural running of the Mountain Splendor 5k at the Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center. The race location is very close to the start and finish of the well-known Black Mountain Greenway races (5k and 10k) held each spring.
The Mountain Splendor 5k shared some segments of the Greenway race course and featured some of its own unique course segments on scenic and tranquil roads. The race was very well-organized and beautiful. The award ceremony was prompt. I strongly recommend this race in the future and intend to come back next year. I had a good run, finishing in 24:13, 7th overall and 1st in my age group.
Congratulations to couple of friends who won this race – Kelly Allen and Joe Watson. Below are complete results, courtesy of Lee Timing. Here are age group results.

I also have to weigh in on the excellent organization and prompt award ceremony. Having run many first time events, I know what disasters can occur. Everything here was perfect. I also want to applaud the many thoughtful volunteers who made this event possible and who braved those chilly temps to give the runners a fun experience.
Go KA! Go DD!
We would not have had a successful event without the generous expertise of Don McMahill. Dennis, thank you for your support of our race.
Thanks for the kind remarks, Dennis. The planning committee at the B.M.Center worked all year to make this race a success. It was a pleasure to help them out in a minor, behind the scenes capacity.
