Results of the Hickory Mountain 10k Trail Race – October 1, 2011 – DuPont Forest, Brevard, NC

It was nice cool weather for the Hickory Mountain 10k trail race. The start was fast – flat to downhill and perfect for getting in the groove. The course starts to roll a bit more after the first mile and during mile two the course takes a fairly challenging turn with long stretches of uphill. This mostly uphill section continues for about two miles and for many (like me and the cohort running near me) some stretches are just too steep to run.

After that we’re rewarded with a swift downhill which settles into a mostly flat final mile. I encountered an annoying pain in my heel (after stepping on a big chunk of gravel I felt as though I had a blister developing). I reacted by adjusting my stride to land on the balls of my feet, rather than heels. My calf muscles are still aching!

Congratulations to the race organizer/director for a very well organized race. And thanks for all the hard work that went into the age graded results (they were good to me).

The 10k results were on the race website this morning (an Excel download). Now it says coming soon for the 10k and 50k.
