Lightning 5k – October 29, 2011 – Point Lookout Trail – Old Fort, NC
|
A few years ago I would regularly complete a 5k in the 22-something timeframe. The last couple of years I’ve been lucky to achieve 23-something (in my latest attempt – the JBL Memorial 5k – I had a 23:59 on my watch but the official time was 24:01).
Well I’ve just learned of a race that has 22-something written all over it. It probably has PR written all over it and if I can get under 21:52 this one can be my PR.
The race is the Lightning 5k on October 29, 2011. It’s at Point Lookout Trail near Old Fort, NC.
From the race website:
The 5 kilometer point-to-point course starts approximately one mile above Point Lookout and follows the Point Lookout Trail down to the base of the trail, approximately 400 meters from the Old Fort Picnic Ground & parking. The course features nearly 900 feet of gradual descent from start to finish.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then this elevation chart should seal the deal …

I’m not going to miss this one. For more information and to register, visit the race website.
The race was AWESOME! Great job Leetiming and MTA for putting it on. Check out the Youtube video of the view and finish times…
THANKS DENNIS THE MAIL-IN FORMS ARE AVAILABLE
I’m checking on the mail-in entry form.
I having trouble down loading an entry to mail in.
Go, DD!
Giving credit where credit is due, this new race is being organized and managed by the McDowell Trails Association out of Marion, NC. They have hosted the MTA Triathlon at Lake James for the last two years and did an outstanding job. I have no doubt they’ll do an equally fine job with this one!
We’ll be on hand for timing duties. I wouldn’t want to miss this one.

Looks like an awesome course. Combined with some cool late October weather this will be a blast!
David Lee of Lee Timing has offered net downhill races for several distances. David Lee is the race director for the Ridge to Bridge Marathon, The Scream! Half Marathon, and now this, the Lightning 5K.
If I can get the whole crew interested in this race, I will write it on the calendar. Of course, I will use pencil.
