It’s hard to believe that it’s almost time for the 4th running of the Hot Chocolate 10k, one of Asheville’s most popular, well-organized and rapidly-growing races. We were incredibly lucky in 2010 to have good weather in the midst of a winter that was more like Fargo than Asheville. Let’s hope we have good conditions again in January.
The race is capped at 1,000 participants and registration has already exceeded 20% of that (as of today). Get registered early or you may be surprised (and disappointed) when the race is full. I locked mine in this morning (I’m in the “never missed a Hot Chocolate 10k club”).
It’s no secret that this is a fast and flat (with the exception of the finish) 10k that cruises through the River Arts District on an out and back course. Here’s a map of the course (click on the image to access an interactive map at USATF.ORG):
