Super Hero 5k Race – November 13, 2010 – Asheville Brewing Company – Asheville, NC
|What’s better than showing up at the Asheville Brewing Company late on a Saturday afternoon, dressed like a Super Hero, ready to run a 5k and follow that with a beer and some pizza? Not much.
I’ve done this race twice (2007 and 2009) and it will never be one in which I set a PR (running in a cape and chef’s hat while carrying a ladle). I created this “Souperman” hero for fun back in 2007 and have updated it again this year. Like all Super Heroes (think Superman and Clark Kent, Batman and Bruce Wayne), Souperman needs a story. Here’s what I invented for him …
By day, he’s a mild-mannered sous chef for an eclectic, cosmopolitan bistro. By night – when the sun goes down and the wind blows cold, he becomes Souperman – warming the hearts, souls and bellies of the masses.
His weapons are varied and they include the likes of Five Onion, Chicken with Wild Rice, Potato Corn Chowder and White Bean and Chicken Chili.
Mostly fiction, other than the fact that I do, in fact, like to make soup. And I owned the chef hat and the ladle before I invented the character. Earlier this year, Souperman had the unusual honor of being named to the list of 23 Nerdiest Real-Life Superheroes at this blog (Souperman was number 16 – not sure if that’s good or bad).
The race starts and finishes at at Asheville Brewing – 77 Coxe Avenue in Asheville. Starting time is 4:30 PM. The course goes over a foot bridge and follows a Montford Neighborhood course. Here a link to a map of the course.
Online registration is at Setup Events.
