DuPont Forest Half Marathon – April 9, 2011 – DuPont Forest, NC
|
Save the date – the 2nd running of the Morris Broadband DuPont Forest Half Marathon has been set for April 9, 2011. This is a great trail half marathon, not terribly technical but plenty of rolling hills. Most of the course is double track trails and forest service roads. But an extra treat is about a mile of running on an old black-top airstrip.
The race will be capped at 350 this year. Last year it sold out a few months before the event. Registration is available at Active.com and the cost until December 31, 2010 will be $50. Beginning January 1, 2011 it will be $60 until the race is sold out. This race is part of the Four Seasons Running Club (Hendersonville) Gran Prix series.
I’m not sure if there will be course modifications yet, but here’s the map from the 2010 race (click on the image for a much larger image:

Is there any kind of consensus on how long the route actually is? I rode the route on my MTB today (March 13) with a Garmin 305 and I only got 11.5 miles. That was including an overshoot of the turn onto Fawn Lake Loop trail and starting from the Guion Farm Parking lot. So as near as I can tell the route on that map is a full 2 miles short. Am I missing something?
Hi Kevin. I had 12.9 on my Garmin last year. There is a lot of potential for variation on this course, but it’s a good half.
