Lake Lure 10k Dam Run – August 27, 2010 – Lake Lure, NC
|
Here’s a Friday evening race that kicks off an interesting string of weekend races, two of which feature dams and one that’s an assault on Chimney Rock. This race is part of the Hickory Nut Gorge Olympiad and starts at 7 PM.
Here is a description from the race organizers …
This challenging 10k course begins at the Ingles Supermarket on Rt 9, heads east on Rt 64 and onto Buffalo Shoals Road, crosses the dam, winds up and down along the shore road to finish on the Beach at Rumbling Bald Resort before a crowd of cheering spectators. This is a spectacular evening run in one of most beautiful areas of North Carolina.
Keeping with the Olympiad spirt, Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals will be awarded to Top 3 finishers in each age group. Every participant will receive 2010 Commemorative Olympiad T-Shirt, a iced neck towel to cool you off at the Finish Line, and post race food and drinks.
More information and online registration are available at Setup Events.
This is the first race in the area that I’ve seen that says ABSOLUTELY NO WALKERS. Yikes. I know I would start out running, but walk some of the time, so, it’s not for me…I’ve enjoyed the non-snooty attitude of the other area races and running community.
This looks like a blast. There aren’t many 10Ks in the immediate Asheville area. Schedule does not allow this year, but I would like to try it next year.
I can’t quite determine this from the description: do you think that the surface is all pavement?
No, it’s hard to tell. The information on these races is not great. I ran the Race to the Rock 5k last year and it was well run. This year the timing is with Setup Events so it will be much more timely.
