Kiwanis Weaverville Firecracker 5k, July 3, 2010, North Buncombe High School – Weaverville, NC
|
NOTE: THIS IS PART OF THE ASHEVILLE TRACK CLUB 2010 GRAND PRIX
This is the second year of the new course for the Kiwanis Weaverville Firecracker 5k. The race starts and finishes at North Buncombe High School. This is one of five Firecracker races to run in Western North Carolina so there’s plenty to choose from. This course is rolling, paved country roads and typically draws a big crowd. It’s been well organized and managed every time I’ve run it (four times).
Here’s the course …

The race starts at 8:30 AM on July 3, 2010.
Here are directions …
From North of Weaverville:
Take 19-23 South/Future I-26 East to Exit 17. Turn right at the top of exit ramp onto Old Mars Hill Highway. Go 0.5 miles and bear left onto Salem Hill Road, then go 0.2 miles and turn left into the high school parking lot. From South of Weaverville:
Take 19-23 North/Future I-26 West to Exit 17. Turn left at stoplight onto Old Mars Hill Highway. Go 0.7 miles and bear left onto Salem Hill Road, then go 0.2 miles and turn left into the high school parking lot.

Yes … a tough hill after mile one (tougher for some that me it appeared) I think I love hills…. I PR’ed by 67 seconds on a hilly course…. What a feeling! I will be back!
Great race hills are challanging but for some reason easy to run. No traffic and lots of kids cheering everyone on at the finish. Well organized!!!!!!!!!!
Well organized. Well done. I’ll be back.
Awaiting final results.
The ambiguity is annoying. I registered and would like to know when to show up. Time for an e-mail…
I e-mailed the organizer yesterday to point out the discrepancy and ask for clarification.
Kiwanis confirmed the start is at 8:30 and they will correct the time at Active.com.
