Taking place on the georgeous campus of Camp Rockmont in Swannanoa NC and part of both the Mountain Sports Festival and the 2010 LaSportiva Mountain Cup Series, R2R has quickly become a must-do race on the southeastern calendar.
Here is a one-line summary of this race from the race organizers.
A gnarly single track 10k trail run with ~2000 feet of climbing…Part of the 2010 Mountain Sports Festival.
That about sums it up. I did this race in 2009 and it is the toughest race I’ve ever done. I chose this race because I felt I wasn’t quite ready to run the 10 mile Sunset Stampede on the following day. So I figured I’d do a little 10k trail race. How tough can it be? Read my post after running the race in 2009.

It is beautiful. The setting at Camp Rockmont is well worth the visit. The views from the top are stunning. See the picture at the top of this post featuring the smiling runner? You have good reason to smile (briefly) at the top. I consider this one of those “badge of honor” races.
This is a technical and demanding course. A good estimate is to add about 60% on to your usual 10k time. You will not be able to run the entire course. There will be a single water station at the high point (Eden Rock)…roughly 3.5 miles into the course. Roots, rocks, downed trees, low limbs and very steep terrain are just some of the challenges…but the rewards are some sweet single track and an unmatched view off Eden rock…You will be amazed to be only minutes from I-40 and feel so remote.
The race is capped at 225 participants. Registration is at Active.com. Visit the official race website at www.Rock2RockRun.com.

I live up at camp rockmont and have hiked to Eden Rock several times. I can not believe people actually participate in this race! It is incredibly beautiful, but you’ve definitely got to be a glutton for punishment.
It’s a crazy race. I did it last year and it’s the downhill piece (at least the first portion of the downhill) that is most insane. Speaking of downhill, good luck at the Downhill @ Dawn.
