Run for Kids Sake 5k – June 12, 2010 – Warren Wilson College
|
I ran this race in 2009 and it was very enjoyable. The race is a combination of trails, walks and a bit of on-campus roadway – but no traffic. The race starts at 8:30 AM on Saturday, June 12, 2010 on the campus of Warren Wilson College. Here is more race descriptive information from the organizer …
Big Brothers Big Sisters is excited to announce the Second Annual Oppenheimer & Co., Inc. Run for Kids’ Sake 5K. This event will take place June 12 on the campus of Warren Wilson College which is consistently called one of the most beautiful in the country. The course will begin in front of DeVries Athletic Center, cross a spectacular pedestrian bridge, and traverse the central campus on the way to the College Farm. After passing scenic pastures, a single track trail will lead you to the organic garden. The final leg includes a beautiful pond, more single track, and broad views of the Craggy mountain range before returning via the pedestrian bridge to a flat finish at the start. The entire route is off public streets.
Proceeds from the race will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters WNC as it works to recruit, screen, train and support adult volunteers who commit to mentoring a young person in our community for at least one year, although many matches last a lifetime. Young people with mentors are more likely to stay in school, have better grades, and attend college. Along the way, these children are less likely to engage in risky behaviors that lead to drug and alcohol dependency or teen pregnancy. Volunteers give four to six hours a month spending time with young people at school or on the weekends. As a leader in providing youth services, Big Brothers Big Sisters has had proven success in our community since 1982.
Online registration is available at Active.com.
I ran this race today. It sure was a nice change from road races. Results were ready quickly. Volunteers were GREAT.
I had a great time. Everyone is friendly and it is a good course. Cherokee Runners were represented today, Gerri, Chris, Brian and myself. We have ran this both yrs. Will be back next yr. creator willing.
What a great picture Dennis! Ha. There might never again be a picture of me in a race where it looks like I am actually ahead of a pack of people!
Isn’t it great? I almost wrote something like “Sherry Roane leads the pack at the first bridge crossing during the 2009 Run for Kids Sake 5k.”
