Daniel Boone Scramble

June 4-5 is a mighty busy race weekend in Western North Carolina. On Friday there’s the Asheville Chamber Challenge 5k and on Saturday you can take your pick — everything from a fast 5k (The Human Race 5k) to Run on the Wild Side 8k at the Arboretum to a crack of dawn downhill half marathon (Downhill @ Dawn Half at Ridgecrest) to this rugged 10k trail race starting at 9:00 AM at Camp Daniel Boone in Canton, NC. This sounds like a challenging race at a beautiful place.

Here’s what the race organizers have to say about the Daniel Boone Scramble 10k Trail race …

The course will take runners on a 2000 foot ascent to some scenic views of Cold Mountain, through lush forests. The second half of the race will be a fast, technical descent into the various campsites and activity areas of the camp. On the finishing leg of the race, runners will run close to rushing streams and will experience a water crossing in the last quarter mile, before finishing in front of the Camp Daniel Boone Dining Hall and Pavilion.

Timing and race administration will be by Jus’ Running of Asheville, NC. They put on such trail classics as the Shut-In Ridge Trail Run and the Earth School Dupont 12k Trail Race. The Daniel Book Trail Scramble is set to join these races as a favorite for area runners.

Sounds exciting. Note “fast, technical” – that reminds me of the downhill portion of the Rock 2 Rock Race. To register, download the Daniel Boone 10k Scramble Registration PDF.
