The Asheville Chamber Challenge 5k (Friday June 4, 2010 – 4:30 PM) is a popular event that encourages friendly competition between local businesses. What better way than by getting a bunch of four-person teams to compete on a Friday afternoon in a 5k race through the Montford Neighborhood?
But, you don’t need a team to participate. Individuals are welcome and there are lots of individual participants (I was one last year). It’s a huge turnout – more than 700 runners in 2009! I’m sure I’ll see plenty of people I know out there and I’d like to give a shout out to Melissa who told me (at the Falafel 5k) that she’ll be running in the Chamber Challenge and potentially the Arboretum Run on the Wild Side 8k the following day.
The course starts with a fast downhill followed by an uphill stretch in the first mile. After about the first mile it’s a moderate course out Pearson and returning on Montford Avenue with a finish in the Chamber of Commerce parking lot.
