Results of the Vance Elementary School Rocket Run 5k – April 24, 2010 – Asheville, NC
|This was a great race with nearly 100 participants. It was wonderful to run a West Asheville race and allowed me to see parts of the area I had not experienced before. There was no shortage of hills on the course but the downhill portions helped compensate for the uphill portions over the first two miles. It was the third mile that took its toll on my overall time. I felt great but there was quite a bit of uphill in that final mile. I loved the finish – after cresting the final slope you’re rewarded with a clear view of the finish line just a few hundred yards away – a great time for that final blast!
Congratulations to Scott Sawyer (1st overall) and Erik Ostergaard (2nd overall who almost caught Scott). And congratulations to Alexis Rosenfelt (1st female). The race director announced they would use chip timing next year, making this race even better. I hope this becomes a tradition on the Asheville racing circuit. And one more thing — what a great T-shirt design – I love the retro rocket. Flash Gordon-like.

Great race! The course was perfect-both challenging and scenic. Thanks to all the parents for all their hard work in planning. It was a wonderful family event!
Lots of fun on a beautiful day. Can’t wait for next year!
This race was a lot of fun, and if it becomes an annual event, I could see it drawing 200 or more runners. The traffic was so light that I can’t even tell you if I saw a moving car or not. I can’t remember. It was a fun event, and the hills provided a real challenge.
As a Vance graduate, I am happy to see that the community is getting behind events like the Vance Rocket Run.
What a great race! Very friendly, and relaxed atmosphere. Was very family and kid friendly. The course provided a nice tour of West Asheville with no traffic at all on the roads. Pleasantly Hilly. I’m not a regular racer, but I will be back for the second annual Vance Rocket Run!!
Good race, good crowd, good weather; for a worthy cause in West Asheville. The hills were tough but I would do the race again next year. Nice work race organizers…
would do it again in a heartbeat. maybe west-asheville-style there should be a stroller division next year?
Great race! Very well organized with refreshments along the route. A great group of people to run with. Very kid friendly. I took a stroller around the course without any problem. I’ll be back next year, ready to best my time. Thanks for a great event.
Great course, great cause, nice bunch of people, well run. No shortage of hills or bananas. It was great to see students, parents, teachers, and the principal all running. On the downside, my legs are like jello and I was “schooled” by all of my runner friends. I’ll be trained up for next year!
I loved the race, the weather was perfect. The hills were challenging and my fellow runners were in great spirits. I will be back next year. Thanks.
This race was a lot of fun…lots of hills and flat stretches, and it was well-run with an exciting finish line. I love the fact that we were raising money for public education! The old-school t-shirts were awesome, too.
WHEN I CROSSED THE FINISH LINE THE CLOCK SAID 40.OF OR CLOSE. NOT WHAT WAS POSTED. I EVEN ASK MY TIME BEFOR I LEFT. WHATS GOING ON??
I passed it on to the race director.
