Running the Falafel 5k – Asheville, NC – April 18, 2010

Bookmark and Share

There was a great turnout for this morning’s running of the Falafel 5k in Asheville. The weather was perfect for a race. It was a little cool when I showed up at the Asheville Jewish Community Center to register and get my number and chip. I warmed up with my long sleeve shirt on and gloves, but tossed them in my car just before the race started. We ran up Murdock, over to Kimberly and on to Country Club. On the way up Country Club we got to see the leaders on their way back. Dan Amick (first place overall – just over 16 minutes) was leading the pack and I think he finished with enough time to enjoy a bottle of water and a Falafel before the second finisher crossed the timing mat. Jennings Garry was the first female finisher.

The second half of the race was quite fast – mostly flat or downhill. I enjoyed chatting with plenty of other racers after finishing and I especially enjoyed redeeming my coupon for a free Falafel Sandwich. It was great! Plenty of fast guys showed up in my age group so I went home empty-handed in 4th place among the 50-54 year old males.
