Running on the Blue Ridge Parkway

Bookmark and Share

With the Blue Ridge Parkway currently closed to vehicle traffic, it’s a great place to get some quality running done in a peaceful atmosphere.  I went yesterday and parked at the closed gate right off Hendersonville Road and ran north to 74A and back.  That’s a round trip of a bit more than 7.5 miles.  The road is mostly clear of snow with a few trees and limbs down along the way.  I saw two runners, one biker, a handful of walkers and a guy with a dog.  Great run with no interruptions.

If you start at Hendersonville Road and run south, it’s about a 9 mile round trip to 191 (Brevard Road) and back.  If you run this way, be prepared — there are some large trees down.  You’ll need to venture into the woods to get around some of them.
