Burnsville Town Square Scamper 5k – Burnsville 5k – October 17, 2009

Update October 17, 2009 – the results are in …
I ran this race in 2006 and was impressed by the organization and the volunteers and the race itself. It’s a somewhat challenging 5k, with the start and finish right around the Burnsville Town Square. When I ran the race in 2006 the organizers included a nice touch when runners would come back into the town square. An announcer proclaimed “here comes number 212.”
The post-race festivities were very nice, with awards presented indoors (very nice depending upon the weather conditions).

Have consistently heard great things about this race. In addition to Ray’s comments, Karen C. raved about it in her ACT blog his morning…
Hmm…maybe next year 🙂
I agree Martha Tyner puts on a great race. The rain and cold didn’t damped the spirit of the runners. The best doors prizes ever!
Points well taken!! 🙂
Tomorrow we have the best of both worlds. With a 10 AM start we get to race and sleep in!
Sounds like a plan; when I got an e-mail from them re the cancel, there were about 4o folks in the list. Not a lot, so understand the concern-but I bet they would’ve gotten a bunch of race day entries (espec. since it is/was a GP race) Although it is a busy time of the year for races, I don’t think there is much competition from other races that weekend.
I’ll bet, with your marketing savvy, they would have to order more candy corn and carmel apples! Seriously, I bet they’d welcome the assist. See you in the chilly morning!
I too switched to the Southcliff because it’s so close. But I am also bummed about the cancellation of the Monster Dash. I loved that race. I’m going to have to get in touch with those folks to see what it would take in terms of confirmed sponsorship to keep that going (not this year, but next and beyond).
I’ve wanted to run this race, and have heard good things about it, but started doing Southcliff 2 years ago, so… 🙁
I wish they weren’t the same day-now that the Monster Dash bit the dust (bummer 🙁 it would be nice if one of the races moved a week-there’s just not enough Saturdays!
The Town Square Scamper is my favorite local 5K. I think I’ve run it three times. Martha Tyner and her crew do a really good job. Nevertheless, I think I have to miss it this year.
They’ve been widening 19-23 alt which most Asheville drivers would use to get to Burnsville (which I think is a crime, but I won’t go there…) I don’t know the status of the highway construction. People driving from Asheville might want to leave 15 min. early, just in case.
